[New LEGO Dragon Boat Race Set]

LEGO Singapore has just announced the upcoming 80103 Dragon Boat Race set featuring 2 dragon boats and a staggering 15 minifigures from 1st May 2019 at LEGO Certified Stores

SINGAPORE, 26th April 2019 – LEGO® Singapore has announced the arrival of the much-anticipated LEGO Dragon Boat Race set to arrive on our shores! Available from 1st May 2019 onwards, the LEGO Dragon Boat Race set is expected to be a splash with fans of the sport and LEGO enthusiasts alike.

As with the two Lunar New Year (LNY) themed sets that were released earlier this year, the LEGO Dragon Boat Race set is part of the new wave of Asian themed LEGO sets. Priced at SGD84.90, the LEGO Dragon Boat Race set is expected to fly off the shelves, similarly to the LEGO LNY sets which were sold out both online and in-store shortly after their release.

The Dragon Boat Festival, popularly known as theDuanwu Festival, is a cultural festival originating in China and occurring close to the summer solstice, around the end of May to mid-June. It commemorates the life and death of the famous Chinese scholar Qu Yuan (Chu Yuan).

It is unofficially observed by the Chinese communities of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia and Singapore. Two of the most widespread activities conducted during the festival are preparing and eating zongzi(traditional bamboo leaf-wrapped sticky rice dumplings) and racing dragon boats.

A dragon boat is a paddle boat that is traditionally made of teak wood to various designs and sizes. They usually have brightly decorated designs, with the front end shaped like open-mouthed dragons and the back end with a scaly tail. A sacred ceremony is performed before any competition in order to “bring the boat to life” by painting the eyes.

As with the LEGO LNY sets, the LEGO Dragon Boat Race Set is part of the Spring Festival series, as can be seen by the gold medallion featured on the upper right corner of the packaging.

The latest in the series will allow fans to recreate all the color and thrills of a Dragon Boat Festival and features two impressive dragon boats (one green and one red). Each boat features a dragon head with an opening mouth and posable tail, three minifigure seats for the paddlers, space for the helmsman and drummer to stand, plus small wheels underneath for racing.

There is also a dock which features a food stall with different elements including a pot, rice bucket, six cooked zongzi, two uncooked zongzi and a food sign. The dock is attached to a viewing area for spectators and the judge’s stand with steps, decorative elements and a trophy!

The set comes with 15 minifigures which are made up of two dragon boat helmsmen, six paddlers, two drummers, two spectators, a judge, a young boy and a stall keeper. The helmsmen and paddler minifigures are brand new additions to the LEGO minifigure family.

“Our LEGO Spring Festival series is instrumental in commemorating the rich culture and celebrations of the region, and we are very excited to launch the first ever Dragon Boat Race set in Singapore,” said Cesar Ridruejo, General Manager of LEGO Singapore and Malaysia.

“LEGO is committed to producing sets that are targeted especially to fans in the region, as well as children who will get a unique play experience that is deeply fundamental in culture,” she added.

Happening from 19 – 21st April during the long Easter weekend, we take you on a photo tour at Singapore’s First Brick Convention happening in 2019 at Funan Showsuite (not to be confused with the New Funan which is yet to open).

The huge poster of the event greeted us upon arrival. Take note there is an entrance fee of SGD6.00 per adult and SGD4.00 for children 12 and below.

Awesome LEGO MOC Series – Boulevard Station

It’s been 12 years since the very First LEGO modular building (Cafe Corner) was brought to us in 2007, we have seen fire brigade, apartment, garage, cafe, emporium but never a train station set that many were looking forward to.
6199354-train_station_3_de_27

Thanks to the builder here we have it in the form of this “145 Boulevard Station” featuring elevated train track with enough details such as News stand to wow you over.

There’s even space for 6 lovable minifigures but we were left wondering…
Just when the train will be arriving?

RESEARCH REVEALS SINGAPOREAN CHILDREN NEED TO FOCUS ON DIFFERENT SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL FUTURE CAREERS

RESEARCH REVEALS SINGAPOREAN CHILDREN NEED TO FOCUS ON DIFFERENT SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE CAREERS OF THE FUTURE

  • 93% of parents believe that their kids are under more pressure than they were at a similar age
  • 98% of parents say that it is vital for kids to play imaginatively to be well prepared for the careers of future, but 55% say there is not enough time in the day for them to play imaginatively
  • The 17-day largest LEGO Movie 2 event in Singapore at VivoCity from 8th – 24th February will provide a platform designed to allow children to unlock their imagination and creativity, and discover their individual passions – including movie-making, story-telling, dance and building workshops

Singapore, 24th January 2019 – LEGO Singapore has launched new research which reveals that a regime of school and extracurricular work is resulting in a lack of time and opportunity for children to explore their more imaginative playful sides and develop essential skills for the future. In response, LEGO Singapore has launched its largest ever 17-day action packed event at VivoCity to celebrate the LEGO Movie 2 and invite parents and children to try new activities and unlock their imagination and enable creative development.

Today’s children can expect to have very different career paths from their parents and a less traditional life, with 85% of future jobs having not exist today. In new research conducted by LEGO Singapore, over half (55%) of 400 parents polled said there isn’t enough time built into the school day for children to explore their creative side. Homework (62%), tuition (45%) and extracurricular activities (30%) were ranked the top activities that took up this play time.

Despite top careers children aspire to are, film/video maker (30%), artists (29%), astronauts (19%), Traveler (18%) etc. require very different set of skills to the traditional roles, parents believe there is little opportunity for children to explore this side of them despite 98% believing it is vital for kids to play imaginatively to be more prepared for the future.

To encourage imaginative play and develop creativity, LEGO Singapore is inviting parents and children to attend its largest 17-day event at VivoCity which will bring to life the worlds and characters in LEGO Movie 2 and encourage children to experiment with a range of new activities and skills. This includes story-telling, dance activities, movie-making activities and building sessions with LEGO Certified professional, Nicholas Foo.

While 98% of parents say that it is vital for kids to be creative and play imaginatively so they become well-rounded for the future, they are concerned that there isn’t enough time in the day for them to indulge this part of growing up.

“This research shows the lack of time and opportunities for imaginative play, despite parents believing that this is critical for a child’s development and future success.” says Kiran Chadaram from LEGO Singapore, who commissioned the survey.

“At LEGO we understand how important education and academia are, and we are also aware of how important it is to develop imagination and creative skills for children’s development and for the child’s future. Hence we have created the largest LEGO event ever in Singapore that provides ample opportunity for unstructured, truly creative play for children to explore new passions and create amazing things together. From LEGO graffiti walls for the future artists, interactive games at the Systar System for the aspiring astronauts, to a LEGO Movie Maker activity for the film makers of tomorrow – there is something for everyone.”

Exploring children’s imagination through different universes at The LEGO Movie 2 Event

In light of these findings, and in celebration of the release of the new LEGO Movie 2, LEGO Singapore is inviting parents and children to the LEGO Movie 2 Event to further explore their creative side with the different universes from the movie.

From 8th – 24th February 2019, LEGO Singapore will be hosting an exciting event at VivoCity, from 10am – 10pm. Kids will get to experience first-hand the different universes from The LEGO Movie including the DUPLO Planet, Systar System, Land of Apocalypseburg and Alien Jungle. There will be numerous opportunities for children to let loose and explore their creativity with activities like workshops, LEGO exhibits and interactive games for all.

Please refer to The LEGO Movie 2 event listing for more information.

Role-playing with The LEGO Movie 2 Welcome to Apocalypseburg!

In celebration of its movie premier, LEGO Singapore is launching The biggest LEGO Movie 2 set, 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg! – an epic 360 degree play experience that allows builders to create and recreate scenes from the movie and prepare for the alien invasion. This advanced building set has 3,178 pieces and presents an awesome challenge even for master builders. The set will be launched at the event on the 9th February 2019.

This set features a detailed representation of the movie’s iconic scenes such as the Statue of Liberty with a chill-out room in the head, café, Scribble Cop’s office with a chair-kicking function, armory, barber’s/tattoo parlor, Lucy’s hideout, Fuse’s workshop, rooftop diner, gym, spa, lookout platforms and loads more! This action-packed toy also comes with 12 brand new minifigures from The LEGO Movie 2 to role-play and reimagine favorite scenes from this blockbuster film.

On top of this exciting set, LEGO Singapore will also be offering shoppers an exclusive Gift with Purchase – The Emmet’s Lenticular Mosaic. This Gift with Purchase was specially created by LEGO Certified Professional, Nicholas Foo, and will be free for redemption only at The LEGO Movie 2 event with every purchase of the Welcome to Apocalyseburg set, while stocks last. There will also be another adorable heart-shaped Gift with Purchase with any purchase of SGD60 at the event.
