RESEARCH REVEALS SINGAPOREAN CHILDREN NEED TO FOCUS ON DIFFERENT SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL FUTURE CAREERS

RESEARCH REVEALS SINGAPOREAN CHILDREN NEED TO FOCUS ON DIFFERENT SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE CAREERS OF THE FUTURE

  • 93% of parents believe that their kids are under more pressure than they were at a similar age
  • 98% of parents say that it is vital for kids to play imaginatively to be well prepared for the careers of future, but 55% say there is not enough time in the day for them to play imaginatively
  • The 17-day largest LEGO Movie 2 event in Singapore at VivoCity from 8th – 24th February will provide a platform designed to allow children to unlock their imagination and creativity, and discover their individual passions – including movie-making, story-telling, dance and building workshops

Singapore, 24th January 2019 – LEGO Singapore has launched new research which reveals that a regime of school and extracurricular work is resulting in a lack of time and opportunity for children to explore their more imaginative playful sides and develop essential skills for the future. In response, LEGO Singapore has launched its largest ever 17-day action packed event at VivoCity to celebrate the LEGO Movie 2 and invite parents and children to try new activities and unlock their imagination and enable creative development.

Today’s children can expect to have very different career paths from their parents and a less traditional life, with 85% of future jobs having not exist today. In new research conducted by LEGO Singapore, over half (55%) of 400 parents polled said there isn’t enough time built into the school day for children to explore their creative side. Homework (62%), tuition (45%) and extracurricular activities (30%) were ranked the top activities that took up this play time.

Despite top careers children aspire to are, film/video maker (30%), artists (29%), astronauts (19%), Traveler (18%) etc. require very different set of skills to the traditional roles, parents believe there is little opportunity for children to explore this side of them despite 98% believing it is vital for kids to play imaginatively to be more prepared for the future.

To encourage imaginative play and develop creativity, LEGO Singapore is inviting parents and children to attend its largest 17-day event at VivoCity which will bring to life the worlds and characters in LEGO Movie 2 and encourage children to experiment with a range of new activities and skills. This includes story-telling, dance activities, movie-making activities and building sessions with LEGO Certified professional, Nicholas Foo.

While 98% of parents say that it is vital for kids to be creative and play imaginatively so they become well-rounded for the future, they are concerned that there isn’t enough time in the day for them to indulge this part of growing up.

“This research shows the lack of time and opportunities for imaginative play, despite parents believing that this is critical for a child’s development and future success.” says Kiran Chadaram from LEGO Singapore, who commissioned the survey.

“At LEGO we understand how important education and academia are, and we are also aware of how important it is to develop imagination and creative skills for children’s development and for the child’s future. Hence we have created the largest LEGO event ever in Singapore that provides ample opportunity for unstructured, truly creative play for children to explore new passions and create amazing things together. From LEGO graffiti walls for the future artists, interactive games at the Systar System for the aspiring astronauts, to a LEGO Movie Maker activity for the film makers of tomorrow – there is something for everyone.”

Exploring children’s imagination through different universes at The LEGO Movie 2 Event

In light of these findings, and in celebration of the release of the new LEGO Movie 2, LEGO Singapore is inviting parents and children to the LEGO Movie 2 Event to further explore their creative side with the different universes from the movie.

From 8th – 24th February 2019, LEGO Singapore will be hosting an exciting event at VivoCity, from 10am – 10pm. Kids will get to experience first-hand the different universes from The LEGO Movie including the DUPLO Planet, Systar System, Land of Apocalypseburg and Alien Jungle. There will be numerous opportunities for children to let loose and explore their creativity with activities like workshops, LEGO exhibits and interactive games for all.

Please refer to The LEGO Movie 2 event listing for more information.

Awesome LEGO MOC Series – THE CENTENNIAL BUILDING

In this episode we pay a visit to ‘The Centennial Building’ built using 2940pcs. The builder created this building through real-life inspiration from the old Nassau County Courthouse, a historic courthouse located in Florida of America.

For those whom owns a set of the modular building 10224 Town Hall may find it familiar with the grandeur scale.

More from the builder
Add this building to your LEGO city for an instant touch of class! This historic building is perfect for any city layout and can be used for a variety of purposes, depending on the builder’s wish. Let your imagination run wild!

Features:
– 2,940 total pieces
– Hinged build allows for easy access, as well as increased playability.
– Unique clock tower caps the whole building, with many cool details. See if you can spot them all!
– This two-story brick building is flexible enough to be used for a variety of purposes. Make it a museum, a school, a courthouse, a town hall, and so much more.
– Frog-goyles peer down at you from the corners of the building’s corniced roof.
– Ascend the stairs to the second floor, where you’ll find wood-paneled walls and an ornate chandelier hanging from the ceiling.

Awesome LEGO MOC Series – THE CAR WASH

If you are looking out for the perfect companion to 2018’s LEGO Modular Building Downtown Diner set, The Car Wash would be our top pick with it’s art deco charm (oi boi how we love the imposing electric guitar). And it even double up as a decent car wash.

It is time to make a stop to clean the car and what better place than the car wash that is next to the music store.

A site that is recognized from a distance because it has a giant guitar that announces the place.

More from the Builder

It is an Art deco tropical building style of the late 50s similar to the style of the official set 10260

(Downtown diner) that I find spectacular, and had the need to make an add on for it.

On the ground floor we have outside the car wash with hose, water, taps, buckets, soap, sponges and an industrial vacuum cleaner, inside, a large music store with many records and a typical decoration of the time.

On the first floor we have a more comfortable area to listen to the records and on the outside the great guitar.

On the second floor, the studio of the musician, where he composes his songs and signs the discs of his fans, there are also some of his prizes like the guitar and the golden statuette

The ceiling reveals a glazed space for more light.

Awesome LEGO MOC Series – THE CONCERT GRAND PIANO

Awesome LEGO MOC Series

The Concert Grand Piano is highlight today to share with all music lovers.

Built entirely from 2798pcs LEGO bricks, it accurately captures the mechanical details of a real piano. We were especially impressed with the video shared by the builder (Special thanks to SleepyCow)

More from the builder

“Ever since I started learning music, I have always wanted to build a piano out of LEGO bricks. I have also been asked many times by my students about the inner-workings of a piano. I think this will be a great set to teach students about piano mechanics. I’ve seen many people do it in different ways, but I decided to make my own version, as well as try to make it as similar to a real piano as possible with correct proportions.

Making the LEGO piano playable was my main focus when I designed this model, and at the same time, the most challenging part of the build. Finishing the model and seeing it work smoothly brought me great satisfaction. I spent a long time just siting there playing with the LEGO piano keys, imaging the sounds of a real piano. This is a great example of the creativity and diversity of LEGO bricks.”

Key features;

– Removable keyboard with 25 independent working keys, each key connects to its own hammer.
– Working damper and pedal function.
– 25 strings.
– Realistic piano lid which can be open either half stick of full stick.
– Realistic fall board with a soft close.
– Removable music stand.
– Height adjustable piano bench.
– Self-playing function enabled by adding Power Functions, which allows keys to play at different tempos and rhythms.
– Realistic piano wheels.

Awesome MOC Series – FOOD STAND DINERS

We have seen a few fabulous LEGO sets in the shape of food theme such as the LEGO Friends 41129 Hot Dog Stand set, but what set this featured MOC (My Own Creation) apart are the familiar look of the golden arches’s Big Mac set with the signature Red fries holder and milkshake in the all familiar white paper cup.

The ‘Food Stand Diners’ is an outstanding MOC build that is suitable for both play and display purpose, we especially love the build-in details of the menu, sauce dispenser as well as micro-scale fries and burgers.

More from the builder
The fabulous Fernando Brothers are known for their fine cuisine; and their fun food shacks are the perfect place for a family party.

Each food stand is modeled to resemble a life size food counterpart, whilst also being a minfig-scale food stand. Perfect for either play or display, with fully detailed interiors so the brothers can prepare their specialty burgers, milkshakes and fries.

It’s also proposed there’d be a range of food accesories included, burgers, drinks and more (a birthday cake perhaps?) Along with a table and additional minifigures included, so that you could create your own family enjoying a lovely day in the park.

foodiners2.jpg
Which Figures? What food?

Currently the three proposed food stands included would be a Burger stand, a Fries stand, and a Milkshake stand. But perhaps you’d like to see another of your favourite foods made into a foodstand and included? Well, let us know in the comments.

Likewise the minifigures currently shown here are placeholders, and ideally the set would include enough minifig parts to mix and match your own family having a fun day out. What figures would you like to see?

Like what you seen? This awesome Food Stand Diners is almost reaching home-run at 9902 supporters vote over at #LEGOIdeas at point of writing. Do lend your support to the builder to reach the review stage of 10,000 supporters: http://bit.ly/SGbricksClub_FdStdDiners
